"Do you believe in goblins?" The question is probably equivalent to saying "Are you an idiot?". Goblins belong to the part of our cultural heritage that has been rejected because they are an animistic notion. In the past, Animism was seen as something childish, but today Animism has become a leading global trend in spiritual life. Animism is the starting point for thinkers, scientists, philosophers, debaters and activists worldwide. We ourselves have Animism in our cultural heritage. It is found in folklore, holiday traditions in the paganism of the past, and if we read these parts of our culture with animistic lenses, we can take them up for reconsideration.
The lecture is based on examples of how this animism often lies just below the surface in our ordinary culture.

Rune Hjarnø is a debater, PhD in religious history and anchor person on the platform "Nordic Animism". He is a sought-after lecturer with a focus on how we use our cultural heritage in the face of the environmental crisis. What can we learn about ourselves and our relationship with the world if we look with new eyes at the Animism found in our own cultural heritage.

- He is the prime mover on cultural projects such as the Santa Claus, the Raven Flag and the Year of the Aun, and he has taught Nordic animism at Folkeuniversitetet.

Rune Hjarnø grew up on a farm in Central Jutland. He has lived and worked in Norway, Sweden, Canada, Brazil, Sudan, Angola and Uganda. He has a PhD in religious history from Uppsala University.

Han er en efterspurgt foredragsholder med fokus på hvordan vi bruger vores kulturarv i mødet med miljøkrisen. Hvad kan vi lære om os selv og vores forhold til verden hvis vi ser med nye øjne på den Animisme der findes i vores egen kulturarv.

Rune Hjarnø er opvokset på en gård i Midtjylland. Han har boet og arbejdet i Norge, Sverige, Canada, Brasilien, Sudan, Angola og Uganda. Han har en Ph.D i religionshistorie fra Uppsala Universitet.

Foredrag om Nordisk Animisme

Nordic animism is linked to the turn of the year, the change of light and the life cycle of crops. Our holidays stem from animistic practices that relate to the country's cyclical transformations. One relates to the cycle of the sun and moon. You personify the festival's gallery of spirits with masks and you work with the life-giving transformations that transform seed into grain, grain into crop, crop into the basis of life.

How do religious congregations deal with the fact that man is facing the greatest upheaval in the history of our species? How should spirituality give clues to man on the threshold of a reality that no one has ever dealt with before (or maybe they have...!) The lecture describes the greening of religions, "The greening of religion", as it unfolds institutionally in the major world religions and shows the different proposals for how spirituality can relate to the breakdown in climate and biodiversity. The more general trend towards eco-spirituality, including Animism, a general trend in our time ranging from natural science to neo-paganism.

How sexually normative were people really in the old days? At first glance, many would think that earlier times were more conservative on this point, but this is actually skewed. When you look back through history, you find that pre-Christian and animistic worldviews contain a significant element of queer. The lecture describes the Old Norse cosmology itself as rooted in excesses of normative body images and sexuality.
