Arne has a career as a top athlete, and because he is blind, it has been demanding and presented many challenges along the way. Over 40 years he has gradually lost his sight, and for the last 30 years he has been completely blind. He has used sports to gain income to cope with everyday life without sight, and in addition to setting himself personal goals, he has also set himself the goal of being a role model for other blind people and to change the perception of the sighted about what blind people can do. Arne is a pioneer and participated in the first Danish team in the Paralympic Winter Games in cross-country skiing and biathlon for the blind and has participated in a further 4 games. He is the first Danish blind cross-country skier to have completed the 90 km Vasaloppet, the 54 km Birkebeiner and the 160 km Arctic Circle Race, the world's toughest ski race. About the latter achievement, he had the documentary film 'Tracks in the Dark' produced, which he has lectured on and shown many times around the country. In January 2024, he completed a skiing expedition to the South Pole as the first Danish blind person and he is the oldest blind person to have done so. It was a hard, cold and very demanding expedition, which went from the 89th parallel to the geographic South Pole. A stretch of 111 km. Arne's lecture is about overcoming challenges in one's life, setting goals and implementing them. Arne touches on both the difficult aspects of sight loss and funny anecdotes from situations throughout his life as a blind person. The lecture is about daring to believe in oneself and one's resources and to plunge into the uncertain. There is an opportunity for questions and answers.
