Christopher Weafer is the founding partner of Macro-Advisory Ltd, an independent macroeconomic advisory firm providing advice on macroeconomic, political and business trends to business executives and investors working in Russia, the CIS, Iran and the wider Eurasia region, including Mongolia . Weafer is also an expert in all aspects of China's One Belt, One Road transport system and the Indian-sponsored North-South Transport Corridor, both of which will radically transform Central Asia and create significant opportunities for investors. Weafer has been working in Russia and the CIS / Eurasia region for nineteen years. Most recently, Christopher Weafer was voted the best political economic forecaster of 2016 by Focus Economics. Before leaving Sberbank-CIB, Russia's largest bank and one of Europe's largest banks, where he was chief strategist, to co-found Macro Advisory. He served for four years as Chief Strategist with Uralsib Financial Corporation and for five years with Alfa Bank, two of Russia's largest privately owned financial groups. His first role in the region was as Head of Research with Troika Dialog, a privately held investment bank, from June 1998. Before coming to Russia, Weafer worked as Head of Research for NatWest Markets in Bangkok, Thailand during the Asian financial crisis of 1997/1998. Prior to that, he was Senior Investment Manager at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, one of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds, based in Abu Dhabi City. Chris Weafer is the author of a wide range of published articles on Russia, Central Asia and the Eurasian region and on energy macro trends. He is widely quoted in the international financial press and regularly appears on e.g. BBC, CNN International, CNBC and Bloomberg.
