Wing Commander Andy Green is a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force and holds the world land speed record as "The Fastest Man on Earth". In 1997, Andy drove Richard Noble's Supersonic car, the Thrust SSC, and he set the world's first and only supersonic speed record on land, with an impressive speed of 763 mph. He literally drove 'faster than a speeding bullet'. To hear about the great technological, practical and personal challenges he and the team had to overcome in pursuit of the world land speed record is to share a story you won't soon forget. After setting the land speed record in 1997, he drove the JCB DIESELMAX car in 2006. He and the team overcame some very different but equally challenging problems to set the new record at a remarkable 350 mph for the world's fastest diesel car. Andy is now not only the only man in history to drive supersonic, but also the only man to ever hold records in two such different classes of vehicle. Not content with these records, Andy is now the chosen driver of the new BLOODHOUND SuperSonic car, aiming to reach the incredible speed of 1000 mph! Linked to a major educational program in schools across the country, this project aims to inspire the next generation of young engineers and scientists while setting the most remarkable land speed record ever. The trial has been postponed from October 2016 to October 2017. Yet Andy's greatest love is the Royal Air Force. A veteran of combat zones around the world, he has led Royal Air Force operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan. His career has included flying the F4 Phantom, Tornado F3 and (briefly) Harrier. He now works in the Ministry of Defense supporting Royal Air Force activities worldwide.
